The Recipe Guide: Picture Recipes for Children
Ten simple recipes with detailed instructions for you and step-by-step pictures for your child
As an extension of our Montessori Kitchen Guide, we are excited to introduce visual recipes to help your child independently prepare their own food!
These recipes are designed for children ages 18 months through 6 years. We have categorized the recipes into three levels based on difficulty and number of steps. We recommend starting with level 1 and moving up from there!
By providing simple recipes with detailed instructions for you and step-by-step pictures for your child, we hope to take away some of the barriers to entry that come with including your child in the kitchen. Once you can step back and embrace a little mess, you will be amazed at what your child can create on their own! Each of these recipes have been taste-tested and enjoyed by our own children and ourselves. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
Each of the ten recipes include:
Parent preparation ahead of time (we make this very easy, we promise!)
Demonstration tips for parents
Kitchen tools and dishes needed
Adaptations for different age children
Visual grocery list for your child
Grocery shopping tips, to include your child
Picture Recipe for your child, including ingredients, tools, and step-by-step instructions
Visual recipes are such a fun way to introduce cooking to your toddler. Your child will feel empowered in following steps without an adult telling them what to do next. The more involved your child is in the cooking process, the more excited they will be to try their own creation, and new flavors and foods in general.
You can purchase individual recipes, or for a discount, all ten in The Recipe Guide book! Both the recipes and the book will be emailed to you as digital files, for you to print at home. All of the recipes in this Recipe Guide are vegetarian, and almost all are vegan. If your child has allergies, you can easily use gluten-free or nut-free alternatives. We look forward to hearing how families have made these recipes their own!
The Recipes:

Your child’s safety is our number one priority. Use your best judgment when introducing new food and kitchen tools, and always supervise in the kitchen. You know your child better than anyone!
